Current Trends in Optimization of Parameters of Electric Discharge Machining Process: A Review
Abstract
Wire-cut electrical discharge machining (EDM) is an emerging machining process for machining hard-to-machine materials and intricate shapes which are impossible to make with conventional machining process. The optimum selection of input parameters for the wire electrical discharge machining (WEDM) process is based mainly on the technology used and experience of the operator. This paper reviews the effect of most significant input process parameters of WEDM such as pulse on, pulse off, peak current (IP), spark gap voltage (SV), wire feed (WF), wire tension (WT), pulse peak voltage, dielectric pressure, servo feed etc. on the response parameters like surface roughness (SR), material removal rate (MRR), wire wear ratio (WWR) and surface integrity factors. This paper also reviews the various optimization techniques used by the researchers.
