Implementation of a Solar PV-Wind Hybrid System using MATLAB/SIMULINK

Bhavana J. Prajapati, Vaishali Y Patel

Abstract

This paper presents the simulation and analysis and control of a hybrid system based on solar and wind system employing a dc-dc boost converter and permanent magnet synchronous generator. Maximum power point tracking controllers of solar PV and wind system are operating on perturb and observe method that extract the maximum power from solar and wind sources. It requires the sensing of dc voltage and current output of solar PV and the rectified output voltage of Permanent Magnet Synchronous Generator (PMSG) driven by a wind turbine. Load leveling is implemented through battery means that the solar –wind hybrid system equips with the battery to supply the load demand. The modeling of the system is developed in MATLAB and maximum power point tracking (MPPT) control is investigated during varying solar irradiance and wind speeds.
