Distribution and Prevalence of P. falciparum and P. vivax in and Around Tepi Town in the Year 2003 and 2004 E.C.

Abstract


Malaria is caused from infection by the protozoa of plasmodium. It is one of the serious diseases. There are four species of plasmodium infecting humans; these are Plasmodium falciparum, Plasmodium vivax, Plasmodium ovale, and Plasmodium malaria. The main point of the study of malaria tosses the distribution and prevalence of P. falciparum and P. vivax species in and around Tepi town in the year 2003 and 2004 E.C. The secondary data was taken from the patients diagnosed with malaria at the Tepi Health Center in the year 2003 and 2004 E.C. The age group was ranged as 0–18 years, 19–30 years, 31–60 years and above 60 years and the percentage of infected peoples in each age ranges was calculated. Finally the chart was obtained using MS-Excel tools. The highest distribution of P. falciparum was found for the age range of 19–30 years and 0–18 years in the year 2003 & 2004 E.C., respectively; whereas for P. vivax, the highest distribution was obtained in the age range of 0–18 years and 19–30 years in the year 2003 & 2004 E.C., respectively. On the other hand, the lowest distribution of both P. falciparum and P. vivax was found for the age range of above 60 years old in the year 2003 and 2004 E.C. Generally, it was concluded that, most of people living in and around Tepi town were highly infected with of P. vivax as compared to P. falciparum in the year 2003 E.C.
