Effects of Cavity Length on the Performance Characteristics of InGaN based 420 nm MQW Blue Violet Laser
Abstract
This research work has been carried out to improve the performance of a MQW blue violet laser to get an efficient and high power output. For this purpose the structure is designed using In0.156Ga0.844N/Al0.07Ga0.93. A high performance of the laser is obtained with the optimized values of injection current and differential gain. A maximum optical output power of 220.3 mW is obtained which enhances the designed laser for the application in data storage, optical discs and displays, printings etc. The laser structure with longer cavity length has the lower optical loss which reduces the optical output power and efficiency. The performance characteristics and their dependence to cavity length of the blue violet laser have been investigated using MATLAB simulation. It was found that lasers having shorter cavity length give better performance and also slope efficiency is higher than the total external quantum efficiency.
