Abstract

This paper is aimed to review significant development in the design and analysis of smart meter based on different technologies. India is the 5th largest producer and consumer of electricity in the world. The utility electricity sector in India had total installed capacity of 288 GW as on 31 January 2016, and up to 2024 this will be 603 GW. This target will not be achieved only by installing new power plants, but there must be necessary ways to reduce losses in transmission and distribution side. Energy conservation and energy audit are helpful in reducing electrical losses. Smart metering is useful for electricity management, dominating power shortages, preventing theft, etc. This paper proposes how the new smart meters can be used for efficient power distribution and load management.   Keywords: Smart meters, energy conservation, energy audit, RFID (radio frequency identification), GSM, Bluetooth, TI-msp430Cite this Article Krutin S.
