Resumo

The ultimate purpose of business activity of making money (Goldrat) is disposed to the customer, in exchange of the value served to him, which is essentially tangible. It requires that the organization sustainably invests resources and initiatives to delight the customer. The objectives are admix of improvement of product and processes, both technically and by improving the softer component including what woo the customer for delight. Towards improvement of process and product Quality, it is imperative that small, yet potent, initiatives are applied to improve due competence. The present work is planned to improve both the incorporation of customer requirements (voice of customer) demonstrating the validation of responses with self assessment, through application of Kano analysis. It also reports the process value addition carried through rigorous process analysis and by application of the Value Stream Mapping (VSM) methodology. The financial benefit accrues form latter, attributed to an improvement in efficiency by about 83 %. The suggestions / outcomes from former entails both an investment and running expense to improve business prospects and hence competence. The work thus force fits both resource and setup provisions, albeit simplistically and metaphysically. The study also demonstrates the release of hidden capacity as a result of VSM (since in new scenario the pizza can be baked in less than half the time), and a better competence, facilitating the paradigm of managing a manufacturing business well. Together with capacity and competence (i.e. the capatence) of a production process has been substantially improved. Keywords: Lean Thinking, Value Stream Mapping, Kano Analysis, Capatence
