Re-balancing of a Mixed Model, Two-sided, Paced, Manual Assembly Line using Modified Highest Candidate Algorithm
Abstrakt
Manual assembly line technology has made a significant contribution to the development of manufacturing industry in the twentieth century. A conventional assembly line consists of one sided single model and a straight line layout. However, a mixed model two sided paced assembly line is considered for re-balancing in this paper. To balance the load of an assembly line, a modified highest candidate algorithm is suggested. The objectives of this case study research are to investigate the performance of assembly line – currently which is dedicated to effectively manufacturing the end product (a car), to identify the opportunity of re-balancing the existing assembly line, and to evaluate the performance of the re-balanced line. A way of handling various constraints in an already established assembly line is also explained in this paper.
