Abstrakt
A study to assess the knowledge regarding Ebola virus disease (EVD) (Ebola hemorrhagic fever) among staff nurses in a selected hospital of Delhi followed by a teaching program on prevention and control of EVD was conducted. The objectives of the study were to: (1) To evaluate the knowledge among the staff nurses regarding EVD; (2) To develop and administer a planned teaching program on EVD; (3) To develop and disseminate knowledge pamphlet on EVD among staff nurses. A formal administrative approval was sought from the nursing superintendent of HAHC Hospital, Hamdard Nagar, New Delhi, to conduct the study. A quantitative approach using descriptive survey design was carried out on 50 staff nurses using a structured questionnaire. The reliability of the tool was established by using KR-20 formula and was found to be 0.80. Convenient sample technique was used to collect the sample. The data collection was followed by an educational session regarding EVD to all sample subjects. Thereafter, an interaction session with the subjects was taken and knowledge pamphlets were disseminated. The study showed that most of the sample subjects were having adequate knowledge, i.e., 56% while the rest 44% of the participants were having inadequate knowledge. The study finding has implication for nursing practice, nursing administration, nursing education, nursing research. Based on findings, recommendations were offered for future research. A similar study can be carried out on a larger sample in a different zone of Delhi and other states.
