The ventilation system plays an important role in preventing the release and dispersal of radioactive materials. There are a set of radiation monitoring instruments installed in vantage points in the laboratory to monitor whether ambient radiation level is within safe limits. Novel implementation of collecting ventilation system data in syncronization with radiation background data in areas handling radioactivity, ensures comprehensive safe functioning of the radioactive laboratory. In Radiochemistry Laboratory of IGCAR, in order to preempt any malfunctioning or deviation of the operational parameters of the above systems, a customised electronic logger cum annunciator with LAN facility is developed. The system also makes the data available to designated authorities through LAN to recognize the tendency of the system performance and to make any preemptive actions. The instrumentation details of the logger and the performance are discussed in the paper.Downloads
