The World Wide Web is widely used as a medium for information exchange but due to non semantic nature of HTML its application is limited. The current web can only display information in a simple manner. Researchers are working on the extension of the World Wide Web which will be intelligent and enable us to exchange content with the applications and websites. Target of Semantic web research is to allow automated tools and humans to effectively exploit web accessible information. Ontologies have been suggested to play an important role in knowledge sharing, by providing formal conceptual definitions of data.Protégé is a most popular tool for developing and editing ontologies. Protégé is a Java based open source ontology editor and knowledge-base framework. Ontologies in Protégé can be developed in various formats like OWL, Resource Description Framework (RDF(S)), and XML Schema. The tourism information ontology is becoming a core research field in the realm of information retrieval [1]. This paper explains the potential role of constructing a web based ontology of tourism information domain using Protégé. Keywords: Protégé, ontology, semanticsDownloads
