Sound Source Localization Application on Nios II Embedded System

Abstract


This paper presents the software implementation of binaural sound source localization employing interaural time difference (ITD) method on NIOS system built on FPGA Altera DE2-70. Hardware components on NIOS system were configured and generated using SOPC builder. FFT based cross correlation algorithm was developed for ITD computation. The developed system was tested in a semi-anechoic room and used white noise as sound source. Best sound arrival estimation obtained for sound coming from 0 to 80 degree in front horizontal plane with average estimation time 0.501 sec
