An Efficient General Distributed Parameter Approach to the Line Transient Analysis using Interpolating Function

Mohamed Mostafa Saied

Abstract

This paper presents an efficient technique for the time-domain determination of the electromagnetic transients along general transmission lines. The lines can be uniform or nonuniform. The technique is also applicable to line models incorporating dependent sources, such as the distributed voltage-dependent current sources usually adopted for simulating the line corona. The suggested approach is based on the concept of the interpolating functions for the numerical solution of just two simultaneous partial differential equations in the voltage and current as functions of the location and time, subject to a number of initial conditions. The validity of the presented method and its advantages compared with the currently available procedures are demonstrated by its application to three case studies of   known solutions.
